I belive that samba stores the id  for the next host/user there. Atleast that's
what i can understand from http://www.unav.es/cti/ldap-smb/smb-ldap-3-howto.html 

i found it by setting loglevel=10 in samba and trying to join a xp to the domain. 
it failed while trying to write to that field.
