[Bug 1078] New: No sound on thinclients using "non-esd" software

http://bugs.skolelinux.no/show_bug.cgi?id=1078

Summary: No sound on thinclients using "non-esd" software
           Product: Skolelinux
           Version: sarge-release-2.0r0
          Platform: x86
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: NEW
          Severity: normal
          Priority: P2
         Component: Configuration
        AssignedTo: debian-edu@lists.debian.org
        ReportedBy: trond@maehlum.net

When enabling sound on thinclients, only software capable of playing "real" esd
sound play. That would include mplayer, xmms and Firefox(flash). Applications
like Tuxmath and Gcompris does not play any sound. We have tried to start them
using the esddsp program like this:

#esddsp gcompris

It does play sound this way, but way too slow. It is therefore unusable. Not
sure if this is supposed to be filed as a bug, but for us it's a showstopper for
porting our servers from K12LTSP (which _do_ play sound from these apps) to
Skolelinux 2.0.
