Periodical server problems with sarge server.

Hi there,

let me decribe the problem first:

Every morning, and sometimes also in the afternoon if the server had
some leisure during the morning, users fail to login via samba from
windows clients. The message is something like
"domain SKOLELINUX not available".

Alas, this only happens, when no capable admin is present (neither me)
and when the local admin is in a hurry - so what he does (and works) is
reboot the server. He wouldn't find the time to try if at least linux
clients can connect - in order to see if this is a samba/nmdb or a dhcp
issue or even a auto negotiate issue.

What we did as possible workaround was creating a cronjob that restarts
all daemons in questions in the early morning (and kill nmdb zombie
which remains after stopping samba). This is running - but yet the
problem lasts on.

I don't feel good with putting a "reboot" into crontab - but have to
keep the local admin in a good mood if you know what I mean.

Next trial would be something like mii-tool.

Any hints? I like to close this letter with an excerpt from dmesg
looking somewhat strange - maybe one of you finds a hint there:

(Thanks, regards, Ralf)
