Not having found any description of the debug-level, I set it to 10,
now, and all i get is these lines (some of them mean "nscd is already
running", as I manually had to start it again and again.)
Some deep ls -lar of home0 is all I did:

21002: GETPWBYUID (10918)
21002: Haven't found "10918" in password cache!
21014: /var/run/.nscd_socket: Address already in use
21028: handle_request: request received (Version = 2)
21028: GETPWBYUID (10918)
21028: Haven't found "10918" in password cache!
21040: /var/run/.nscd_socket: Address already in use
21057: /var/run/.nscd_socket: Address already in use
21062: handle_request: request received (Version = 2)
21062: GETHOSTBYNAME (ltspserver.intern)
21061: handle_request: request received (Version = 2)
21061: GETPWBYUID (10918)
21061: Haven't found "10918" in password cache!

Maybe I could make a cronjob that starts the deamon every minute ;)

BTW: a simple ps aux makes nscd -d crash (or just triggers the
corresponging message

Greetings
Ralf
