Q: Auth/PAM techniques

Hi there,

to understand possible modes / ways of authentification
(e.g. in order to personalize squid), I'd like to start
with what I believe to know. Please comment:

AFAIK there are (at least) two different concepts of remote 
authentification:
- based on IP (problems with multi user environments / ltsp)
- based on cookies (problems with security?)

In order to check the allowance to surf for users that are working on 
thin clients, the 2nd approach seems to be indicated. Any docs on that?
