This is the translated project specification:

Resource savings for schools with open source solutions

The project Skolelinux adverser that using free software the schools
would get comprehensive economical and social gains. «Free software»
is software that are developed on world wide basis as so called «open
source». It's means that the source code is freely available for
everyone. Whit this kind of solutions the user is not bounded to an
single supplier that has bindings for further or/and supplemental
purchasing and use. In 2004 The Program for Digital Competence will
support open source solutions through projects that gather experience
about use and development of solutions for ICT operations.

Time frame: 2004
Participants: Norwegian Board of Education/Directorate of
Education, School owners, municipals and county
