the plain tux without props is the mascot of the linux kernel. Tux with 
props is the mascot for lots of different linux-related projects (each with 
different props)

er, we had a discussion (the "We do need a mascot" thread at the end of 
february) on the list about tux vs gnome/elf/kobold (whatever the little 
guy with the vikingcap is)
