root user für samba mit LDAP

Moin Skoletuxe,
mein samba will immer noch nicht so, wie ich wohl will. Ich kann jetzt 
zwar als normaler user ein Verzeichnis mounten (nochmal vielen Dank an 
Max für die Hilfe), aber ich kann den Windows Client (XP Professional) 
nicht davon überzeugen in die skolelinux Domäne zu wechseln. Folgende 
Schritte aus der Installationsanleitung

funktioineren bei mir nicht:

6. add a root user within the LDAP directory "smbpasswd -a root", prompt 
the root password

  From the client side do the following:

1. go to System, Network Id, choose Properties, then update the 
properties with Domain Skolelinux
2. use the root user and password as the authorized user to add the 
client within the Skolelinux domain
...

Den root user will smbpasswd nicht akzeptieren:
failed to modify user with uid = root with: Insufficient access
      no write access to parent
Failed to add entry for user root.
Failed to modify password entry for user root

und wenn ich dann einfach einen user "root" im  webmin anlege, klappt 
der nächste Schritt auf dem Windows-Client nicht. Hat da jemand eine Idee?

Achja, bevor ich selber wieder ewig rumprobiere: Hat jemand schon mal 
die squid-Authorisierung für einzelne user über LDAP erfolgreich zum 
Laufen gebracht, und was muss man da wo einstellen?
