[john@unixen.org: [nylug-announce] New York Technical Community Holiday Party + NYLUG 12/15 Quickie Meeting]

Greetings Debian New Yorkers,

I won't be able to make this party as I'll be at the Ubuntu Conference
in Mataró, Spain but I think that those of you that can should totally
come up for this. I've talked to some of the folks organizing this at
NYLUG meetings at the recent Mozilla Firefox party and I think it will
be very nice.

If someone would like, I can coordinate for someone to pick up a bunch
of Ubuntu CDs at my apartment to bring to the party. My girlfriend
will be around until the 15th.

Unless plans change, I'll be back in town on the 18th.

Regards,
Mako

O, the weather outside is frightful, but inside it's so delightful.
It's that time of year, boys and girls. Yes, the Holidays. Happy
Holidays! to all our friends and readers! May you prosper and find joy
this coming season. Two quick additional notes.

1.) This year the New York Linux Users Group is -not- having its typical
Holiday party. However, instead we are having a quickie half hour
meeting, from 6:00PM through 6:30PM. A half hour earlier than usual.

        Please show up early!

If not you will miss out on the giveaway of several dozen excellent
technical books, perhaps down some delicious pizza as well. Some of the
books for the taking are:

+ UNIX Shells by Example by Ellie Quigley
+ C++ Without Fear by Brian Overland
+ Moving to the Linux Business Desktop by Marcel Gagne
+ Succeeding with Open Source by Bernard Golden
+ many infosec security books, too many to mention
+ O'Reilly Running Linux

Our gratitude to the publishers for their generosity: O'Reilly and
Associates, Addison Wesley/Prentice Hall, others.

Afterward, you can head downtown Manhattan to the party hosted by our
brothers at the New York *BSD Users Group, and the New York PHP Group:
the New York Technical Community Holiday Party. The announcement
follows.

R.S.V.P. today if not tomorrow, as the party, without exception,
is closed to anyone without an R.S.V.P. You have been cautioned.

2.) The good folks of the New York PHP users group, and the New York
City *BSD Users Group cordially invite the New York Linux Users Group to
a multi-usergroup holiday party this December. Opportune as NYLUG is not
having a December holiday party this year. Please reserve your seat(s)
immediately.

Help spread the word!

New York PHP and the New York City *BSD User Group are proud to
announce the first annual New York Technical Community Holiday
Party.

Keep the evening of Wednesday, December 15th, 2004 open for the
first holiday party to embrace and network the entire New York
technical community.

This is not a PHP or BSD only event, and will include
participants from many technology sectors, including Java,
Linux, Perl, and .NET. We're working hard to make this event
embrace all technologies - not only open source - and our goal
is to combine free and commercial software in one professional
networking event.

Flagship sponsors New York PHP and NYC*BUG are bringing together
hundreds of technical professionals from the New York
metropolitan area for the New York Technical Community Holiday
Party. By uniting diverse skills and interests, open source
professionals, IT managers, and top authors and speakers, this
event begins a new era in technical, business, and social
networking.

Participants from large corporations, small businesses,
universities, non-profits, and user groups are all invited to
attend and bring significant others, co-workers, and friends to
this unique event.

Please forward this email to friends and colleagues.

Get a chance to connect with colleagues and share experiences
with others from your industry. Publishers, leading hardware /
software vendors, and local businesses and organizations will be
there, providing giveaways, presentations, and meetings. Enjoy a
free night of presentations from top authors and speakers,
talking with vendors, and networking in a relaxed social
environment with food and drink.

Bring your business cards to exchange and for raffle
opportunities.

Business casual attire is required.

 When: Wednesday, December 15th, 2004 from 6:30pm to 10:30pm
Where: Exclusive lounge space in Manhattan
Cost: Free, including complimentary beverages and hors d'oeuvres
  URL: http://nyphp.org/nytchp.php

All attendees must RSVP. A reminder with complete details will
be sent prior to the event.
