Just a comment to say that I'd also really like this to be applied. It bit me last week when I was trying to restore a machine whose disk failed, and was hoping to use the output of "dpkg -l" to reinstall packages with exactly the same versions as before the disk failure. I now save this information another way, but I think it's a good idea to fix this bug. Thanks, Dan
