Bug#264606: dpkg has problems to replace directories with symlinks during updates

Hmm, is this behaviour documented somewhere, because i searched it,
and i havent found it yet?

The problem is, that if a developer does such a change in his package,
it might cause serious breakage.

Also, i understand that dpkg should not change a symlink back to a
directory, but here it is the opposite case.
