Bug#203972: dpkg -i hangs up the terminal

Package: dpkg
Version: 1.10.10
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

When I want to install (upgrade) a package, dpkg hangs up the terminal.
For instance:

greux:/home/lefevre# dpkg -i /var/cache/apt/archives/cvs_1%3a1.12.1-4_i386.deb
(Reading database ... Hangup
greux:/home/lefevre#

Then, I can't do anything else with the terminal (typing characters
doesn't do anything).

If I try to install packages via apt-get or aptitude, I get disconnected
from the machine.
