reassigning 199426 to dpkg

reassign 199426 dpkg
thanks

I'm reassigning this to dpkg because I'd like you to have a look at it,
since it looks like an issue with update-alternatives. I can see no
problem with aterm's postinst and prerm scripts. Here's why I believe it
to be an update-alternatives issue:

<maxx> hmmm regarding /usr/bin/x-window-manager: on a fresh sid install
the symlink doesn't exist and nor wmaker nor xfree86-common set it but
  /etc/X11/Xsession.d/50xfree86-common_determine-startup requires it. Is
this a bug in wmaker or in xfree86-common?
<eigood> looks like missing calls to update-alternatives
<Kamion> maxx: you sure wmaker doesn't set it? its postinst has
  'update-alternatives --install /usr/bin/x-window-manager ...'
<maxx> actually /etc/alternatives/x-window-manager is set
<maxx> but not /usr/bin/x-window-manger (which is actually a symlink to
  /etc/alternatives/x-window-manger on my other box)
<maxx> so should either set wmaker the /usr/bin/x-window-manger symlink
or should xfree86-common refer to /etc/alternatives/x-window-manager
  instead?
<eigood> update-alternatives sets /usr/bin/x-window-manager
<Kamion> xfree86-common should *not* refer to
  /etc/alternatives/x-window-manager
<eigood> but don't file a bug on dpkg until you try running the u-a command
  yourself, in verbose mode
<maxx> hmmmm so maybe a postinst bug
<Kamion> maxx: look at /var/lib/dpkg/info/wmaker.postinst and try to debug it
<maxx> I don't see an error with manually running update-alternatives from
the wmaker postinst, still it does not set /usr/bin/x-window-manager
<Kamion> maxx: use the --verbose flag like eigood asked?
<eigood> verbose may not actually give you anything that helps
<maxx> looks like somehow automatic handling of x-window-manger with
  update-alternatives was disabled
<maxx> strange tough, shouldn't be on a fresh installed system
<Kamion> u-a in "dropping back to manual mode at the drop of a hat" shocker
<weinholt> hmm.. sounds similar to #199426
<Kamion> does look similar
<eigood> Kamion: now we have to decide if a hat was dropped in this case

Regards,
