Besides the rpm manpage (which is very thorough, however) I would also like to point out the following resources explaining more how RPM handles this (including sample output) http://www.rpm.org/max-rpm/ch-rpm-verify.html "Using RPM to Verify Installed Packages" http://www.rpm.org/max-rpm/s1-rpm-verify-what-to-verify.html "Selecting What to Verify, and How" It would be nice if dpkg maintained similar semantics so that scripts or programs depending on that behavior could be ported from rpm to dpkg (and back) with ease. In any case, there are a number of md5-related bugs that should probably be closed before trying to implement this, including 162691, 168443, 161097 and 155799 (probably 155676 too). Regards Javi
