Bug#161806: dpkg-1.10.9: HELP! dpkg has disappeared and i cant install anything

I've done an upgrade to dpkg 1.10.9 on my home machine and now the dpkg
binary has disappeared and i can't do anything with dselect/apt! how do i
fix this?
