You have a reproducable case?  Why don't the rest of us?  If you have found an
exact set of packages, when being installed, show this problem, then tell us,
so maybe someone else can fix the problem while you sleep.

Wichert, you are not the only one working on dpkg.  Others can help.  Plenty
of people, even if they don't have write access, are at least familiar enough
with the code, to send patches to the list.
