Read-only /usr: is a warning possible
I have /usr mounted read-only and I always forget to -oremount,rw
before installing packages. The package installer seems to handle
that gracefully, there's been no harm so far, but once I've been
up to five or six times that this occurred to me I decided that
stupid users like me will never remember.
I'm sure people who mount /usr read-write will not understand what
I'm talking about whereas people who mount /usr as ro will feel
familiar ;)
Probably the debian package handling utilities should not get into the
business of remounting file systems, but a little warning to the
people without braincells and not starting installation activities
would be really really nice. Like:
`dpkg: please mount /usr read-only for installation'
Are there other directories besides /usr or /usr/share that
would be candidates? I don't know.
