Details
-------
Started with hamm system which has had some slink/potato stuff added.
Upgrading to slink via apt-get, pointing to local mirror.
Ran "apt-get -f dist-upgrade"
dpkg seemed to hang at the following point (previous few lines of
script output included for context):
Replacing files in old package xbase ...
Preparing to replace xbase 3.3.2.2-4 (using .../x11/xbase_3.3.2.3a-11.deb) ...
Unpacking replacement xbase ...
dpkg: warning - unable to delete old file `/var/lib/xdm': Directory not empty
dpkg: warning - unable to delete old file `/etc/X11/xsm': Directory not empty
dpkg: warning - unable to delete old file `/etc/X11/rstart': Directory not empty
dpkg: warning - unable to delete old file `/etc/X11/xserver': Directory not empty
Selecting previously deselected package xserver-common.
It remained at this point for about 10 mins, so I killed the dpkg process.
After that I had to run "dpkg --configure -a" to tidy up after the kill,
then re-run "apt-get -f dist-upgrade", which proceeded to completion with
no further problems.
