Bug#24626: dpkg: ../../../dpkg/packages.c:191: process_queue: Assertion `dependtry <= 4' failed.
Package: dpkg
Version: 1.4.0.24
Toward the end of a lengthy install, using apt for the first time:
Setting up ckermit (193-1) ...
Setting up linuxlogo (1.06-5) ...
LL IIIIII NN NN UU UU XX XX
LL II NNN NN UU UU XXXX

Linux Version 2.0.32
Compiled #5 Tue Nov 18 21:24:05 EST 1997

maneki-neko
linuxlogo can be configured to display at the login prompt
with /usr/sbin/linuxlogoconfig.
dpkg: ../../../dpkg/packages.c:191: process_queue: Assertion `dependtry <= 4' failed.
E: Sub-process returned an error code
Exit 100
At this point, apt-get is wedged:
# apt-get upgrade
E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run dpkg to correct the problem.
Exit 100
But more importantly, other operations using only dpkg still fail:
# sudo dpkg --configure --pending
Setting up tm (7.106.0-1.6) ...
install/tm: Handling install of emacsen flavor emacs
nothing to do.
install/tm: Handling install of emacsen flavor emacs19

emacs-package-install: /usr/lib/emacsen-common/packages/install/tm emacs20 emacs19 emacs20 failed at /usr/lib/emacsen-common/emacs-package-install line 28.
dpkg: error processing tm (--configure):
subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 2
dpkg: ../../../dpkg/packages.c:191: process_queue: Assertion `dependtry <= 4' failed.
Abort
While this seems to have been triggered, or at least inspired, by apt,
dpkg should be self-consistent...
