Package: release-notes
Severity: important
Hello !
After upgrading to Trixie, I encountered issue described in 5.1.10
"Encrypted filesystems need systemd-cryptsetup package" mainly because I
didn't red the full Section 5 before rebooting.
I think there could be two reasonable responses to this. one is:
dont do that! the document is meant to be read as a whole, and if you dont read it properly you cant complain that you didnt see the information that was in there.
the other is: this shows that the structure doesnt work. section 5 tries to distinguish between "the upgrade"/"before reboot"/"things in trixie"/etc, but these arnt well-defined categories --- given the sections are contributed by several different people, at the end of a release process (little time for editing of the whole doc as a whole), it is hard to make this work consistently. it would be better to have something simpler in section 5
I just checked 5.1.28 "Things to do before rebooting" and nothing
related to 5.1.10 was mentioned there.
After a quick search around section 5, another section mentioning some
actions to take before rebooting in 5.1.16. "Network interface names may
change".
It's easy to miss thoses specific sections and just reboot resulting in
failed boot (in case of missing systemd-cryptsetup) or bad network
interface configuration.
It could be good to add a mention of theses two issues in section 5.1.28
in case reader did not red the entire Section 5 before rebooting.
