(Wow, so openvt has finally stopped hogging the name!)

With markup, maybe something like this (I'm basing the manpage URL on
the sources.list(5) one in old-stuff.dbk):

  <section id="open-command">
    <title>New generic open command</title>
    <para>
     A new <command>open</command> commmand is available as a convenience
     alias to <command>xdg-open</command> (by default) or
     <command>run-mailcap</command>, managed by the <ulink
     url="&url-man;/&releasename;/dpkg/update-alternatives.1.html">update-alternatives(1)</ulink>
     system. It is intended for interactive use at the command line, to open
     files with their default application, which can be a graphical program
     when available.
    </para>
  </section>
