CC:ed to debian-x@. The cyrix, imstt, nsc, sunbw2, vga and via X video drivers have been discontinued upstream, and thus removed. If you use them, you'll need to switch to a generic driver, or to openchrome instead of via (the latter should happen automatically on upgrade). The nv and radeonhd X drivers are obsolete. They are still provided in this release, but you should consider using the nouveau and radeon drivers instead. Graphics mode setting code has moved from the Xorg driver to the kernel for Intel chipsets (starting with i830), for ATI/AMD Radeon chips (from the original Radeon to the Radeon HD 5xxx ``Evergreen'' series) and for NVIDIA chipsets (using the ``nouveau'' driver). This switch to kernel mode setting (KMS) has a number of advantages, but is incompatible with the old style Xorg drivers. In particular, users of the ``nv'', ``nvidia'' and ``radeonhd'' Xorg drivers will need to either switch to ``nouveau'' and ``radeon'', or disable the KMS driver. See http://wiki.debian.org/KernelModesetting Support for old-style userspace mode setting is discontinued in the ``intel'' driver in squeeze, which requires a recent Linux kernel with the CONFIG_I915_KMS option enabled, or the official Debian squeeze kernel. In order to support hotplugging of input devices, the Xorg X server now uses the evdev driver for most input devices. This requires enabling the CONFIG_INPUT_EVDEV option in the Linux kernel configuration. This driver also uses different keycodes from the old kbd driver, so users of programs like xmodmap or xbindkeys might need to review their settings. Cheers, Julien
