Bug#406300: release-notes: Etch's libcairo2 library don't work on a 8 bits depth X server
Package: release-notes
Severity: important
I've just upgraded a machine from Sarge to Etch, and since I can't
anymore use my X terminal which has 8 bits depth only, because the
cairo library (libcairo2) don't handle it :
Error: Cairo does not yet support the requested image format:
Depth: 8
Alpha mask: 0x00000000
Red mask: 0x00000007
Green mask: 0x00000038
Blue mask: 0x000000c0
Please file an enhacement request (quoting the above) at:
...
(see also debian bug #348109)
I don't know how to find a workaround for this (I can't change my X
terminal), and all applications using the GTK library are unusable !!
At least a big warning should be put in the release notes.
If you have any idea for a workaround, please tell me.
With regards,
Fred.
