The introductory chapters, particularly 1 and 2, in TDG[1] are
"supposed" to provide a gentle introduction, but in practice maybe
they don't.

There's also a version of TDG's reference section that's tailored
specifically to Simplified[2]. Note, however, that it's got some
problems. Although the content models are all "simplified" the
examples and descriptions are not (yet). (I haven't decided if it's
worth pursuing this version of the book farther or not.)

If there's anything I can do to help in a transition to DocBook, just
let me know.
