Bug#1117470: ITP: skia -- 2D graphics library

Package: wnpp
Owner: Filip Strömbäck <filip@fprg.se>
Severity: wishlist
X-Debbugs-CC: debian-devel@lists.debian.org

* Package name    : skia
  Version         : 141
* URL             : https://skia.org/
* License         : BSD-3-clause
  Programming Lang: C++
  Description     : 2D graphics library

Skia is an open source 2D graphics library that provides common APIs for hardware accelerated rendering across a variety of hardware and software platforms. It is the graphics engine of Chromium and Firefox for example.

There was a previous ITP for skia (#818180, [1]) submitted in 2016 by Tobias Hansen, which was archived in 2019. When I was initially working on packaging storm-lang in 2021, I reached out and asked if the ITP was still being worked on, and Tobias answered that the application mentioned in the ITP (aseprite) would stop being open, and the ITP was therefore no longer relevant.

The package is a dependency of storm-lang (which I maintain) for hardware accelerated rendering. I plan to maintain Skia along with storm-lang. Gunnar Wolf has agreed to sponsor the initial upload (I am a DM). Packaging is available in Salsa [2] along with a patch to storm-lang [3] that uses the Skia packaging.
