I think it would've helped if you stated in your initial mail that your problem is using lintian for packages outside of Debian. For the rest, the situation is complex. If you want to change things, consider: * filing lintian bugs with patches and/or merge requests on salsa * file Debian policy bugs with patches and/or merge requests on salsa I do not think there is an easy answer for this topic but I certainly do not think that severity levels are completely arbitrary. If you feel that a policy item can only be justified by "personal preference", file bug against that particular tag where you see the problem. Less rant more code, please.
