Sure a good Git template should help. I'm trying to reproduce and fix a bug I had with node-unicode-data which used a Git template (I just switch to tags). Version 5 given by "uscan --update-watchfile" gave a bad watchfile. This may be related to recent big changes on git submodule

Maybe consult man debian-watch and note that afaik the newline after
Version: 5 is mandatory.

By chance I forgot this hint and it works even without the newline.
