To be clear, there are several patches-applied workflows (where both
d/patches and the changed files are committed to git) in use in the
archive by high profile packages.  For example, Emacs.

Again, Otto outlined HIS personal preference to create packages, he did a marvelous job in explaining WHY he prefers THIS workflow and I personally happen to concur.
