hi,

seriosuly, I would not bother about the epoch, and just live with 
it. iirc 10% of the archive has an epoch, so meh.

Removing over two releases is risky and errorprone, eg. you need
to make sure not to reuse versions etc pp.

An epoch might be a bit ugly, but overall it's completly harmless.
