Arguably we need no documentation-less or testing-less builds either.

The proposal is a help to some of our users.

We support "vendor" mechanisms already as part of our packaging, I see 
nothing wrong in also supporting builds flags that we do not strictly 
need for our "own" builds.  It would still be up to each package 
maintainer if they would take the burden of maintaining added complexity 
to their build routines.
