FWIW, git-annex supports fetching data from torrents as well now.

Advantage of annex in the LTS aspect, is ability to add multiple sources
as remotes and/or multiple urls per each file, so if one sources goes
bunker -- data could be fetched from others (given sufficient redundancy
is provided)
