Allan, can you please attach the output of 'dmesg' command? You should
run it after the problem occurred (so running it after 'xset dpms force
off' should do the trick).

Your history log shows that you have also updated xserver-xorg-core. Can
you confirm that when running on an older kernel DPMS works fine? Or at
least are you 100% sure that the problem begun only after you reloaded
your system with a new kernel?
