Exactly. In Kali we use exclusively git for all packaging work
and we use gbp import-dsc on a debian branch to make it easier to
merge the debian changes in our forked packages.

It seems natural to go one step further and share the packaging repository
when Debian already uses git.

And if you need another example, I just learned that the Debian and Ubuntu
KDE teams want to use shared git repositories:

So yes, there's a need here.
