Interlaced files were a good idea in the 56k modem days, because they
would allow images to be shown at a coarser resolution first, and then
at a less coarse resolution as more of the file gets loaded.

However, because the frame is essentially split in two (or more?)
subframes that are compressed independently one after the other,
compression results for interlaced files are typically somewhat worse
off. With the advantage not being relevant anymore in this day and age,
they have gone the way of the dinosaur (and good riddance).

This end should point toward the ground if you want to go to space.

If it starts pointing toward space you are having a bad problem and you
will not go to space today.
