Bug#665045: ITP: synfigstudio -- vector-based 2D animation package (graphical user interface)

Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Denis Washington <denisw@online.de>

* Package name    : synfigstudio
  Version         : 0.63.04
  Upstream Author : Synfig Studio Development Team
* URL             : http://www.synfig.org/
* License         : GPL
  Programming Lang: C++
  Description : vector-based 2D animation package (graphical user
interface)

synfig is a vector based 2D animation package. It is designed to be
capable of producing feature-film quality animation. It eliminates the
need for tweening, preventing the need to hand-draw each frame. synfig
features spatial and temporal resolution independence (sharp and smooth
at any resolution or framerate), high dynamic range images, and a
flexible plugin system.

synfigstudio is the animation studio for synfig and provides the GUI
interface to create synfig animations which are saved in synfig .sif
or .sifz format.

**
synfigstudio already was in Debian, but was removed together with synfig from
the package archives (bug #612070). Dmitry Smirnov <onlyjob at fsf member org>
has recently updated the etl, synfig and synfigstudio packages to the latest
upstream and standards versions, and he and I would be willing to maintain the
package in the future. Upstream is active (the latest upstream version was
released in February 2012). The GCC 4.5 FTBFS mentioned in the mentioned bug
report is fixed. Both of us tested the packages on Debian unstable and have not
found any problems yet.
