Maybe a patch to http://cmake.org/gitweb?p=cmake.git;a=blob;f=Modules/GNUInstallDirs.cmake can be provided?Then, projects that use CMake and include this module automatically get support for multiarch. Those that don't probably need Debian-specific patches(*) or the debian/rules script handles it somehow itself.
HS(*) Question: are other distributions going to follow the Debian multiarch scheme?
