Just in case someone might like to help with the "right approach" -- Sverre (CCed) is busy with GSOC atm. But he is open to assist someone willing to push remote-hg forward (I guess it should have been GSOC project! ;) When I have briefly tried it but I recall some issues yet to be addressed before any prime time.
