Does dpkg-buildpackage ignore -sd?

Hi,

I just tried to not creating the .orig.tar.gz for a package
with version number 0.1+23-1, but dpkg-buildpackage creates
it, ignoring my "-sd" suggestion. Are there any known
problems or traps with this option? TIA.
