Bug reports that are the same bug should not be closed but should be
merged. Which means reassigning them to the same package first.

Just out of curiosity: You do know that you can manipulate bugs
yourself, right?

You can write a mail to control@bugs.debian.org directly or use the
"bts" command line tool to write the mails for you. See
http://www.debian.org/Bugs/ and the bts manpage for more details.

For the above this would be (from memory):

bts reassign 583613 xserver-xorg , reassign 581840 xserver-xorg , merge 581840 583613

That is if you are sure the problem is in xserver-xorg (or things it
uses [udev, kernel]) and not the xserver-xorg-input-evdev you initially
reported the bug to.

PS: merging the bugs is left as an exercise to the reportee. :)
