I would find out what such a person wants to do.

Do they want to continue running whatever it is that came with their
hardware? Then they should do that.

Are they interested in joining the effort to test Debian on their
hardware? Then I would invite them to do so, in the knowledge that
they are testing an unreleased version of the operating system and not
a stable released one.

If they have some other purpose in mind, I would need to know what
that is before recommending anything.
