+1 from me.
I would very much appreciate it, if we got rid of the symlinks altogether, as they don't really add any additional value.

While at it, I'd also like to see the hideous z* prefixes gone and use a consistent 2 digit numbering scheme (atm we have 3 digits [e.g. libgphoto2], 2 digits [e.g. hplip], no ordering [e.g. libmtp/libnjb], and z+2 digits [e.g. udev, alsa, hdparm, hal]).
