Huh? Version scripts have been supported by binutils since at least
(according to the Debian changelog) 2001.
Or are you questioning that most libraries ought to be using version
scripts? I said they ought to, not that they currently did; and using
version scripts isn't going to affect portability to recent Linux
distributions at all.
