Thanks to you all, for the advice!
Next time I know to ask for the debsums beforehand.

After reinstallation the problem has vanished for the bug submitter, so
it was very likely a corrupted binary and I closed the bug report.

Why is it that all of the instruments seeking intelligent life in the
universe are pointed away from Earth?
