Status of gfortan transition
Dear Debian developers,
Bidding adieu to the old Fortran compiler and using gfortran is one of
the proposed Lenny release goals[1]. However, the showstoppes,
definitely, are lapack3 and atlas. There hasn't been any movement on
that side, and it seems that the packages could do with some help.
This has been a long standing issue. Also, Atlas does have new
upstream releases, albeit not declared "stable". However, I feel that
must also be packaged for Debian.
As for me, I am not a Fortran or a compiler expert. But I will
definitely help in testing any releases which you make, since that is
something in my capability.
Thanks.
