Gaia has risen from the ashes with free NASA Worldwind imagery:

Gürkan already built new packages for a first impression, available at
http://gnu.ethz.ch/debian/gaia/

It's much slower and the images are not as detailed as before
unfortunately. But it's a (new) start.
