what i meant was that if you're running some utility in the
postinst that might fail for some reason, you should consider
whether or not the failure of the program should necessitate
the failure of the package's installation.  

there are cases where the failure of a program definitely should
fail the installation, but not knowing more about your particular
situation (and not knowing as much about the internals of tetex),
i can't make a judgement in your situation.  all i'm saying is that
if this situation occurs, would it be easier to remedy with a
half-installed set of packages, or with the new tetex installed
and an error message + documentation telling the admin what to do
to fix it?
