Did you have a look at:
http://honk.physik.uni-konstanz.de/~agx/linux-ppc/debian/mplayer/
The mplayer packages there (based on Christian Marillats very nice i386
package) have support for an altivec and non-altivec version and are
being used by quiet some debian-ppc folks.
