Indeed. Or just "mark the first (or any) message as read".
If one's MUA is the version of mutt shipped with woody one gets twice
the pain because it will *first* write the updated folder to /tmp and
*then* try to move it to the final destination, usually in a home
directory on another partition. :-( (I haven't checked whether this
happens in sarge's mutt too).
