Install whatever you want. You're free to install nullmailer, ssmtp,
etc.

Anything that Provides: mail-transport-agent; will work just fine;
ala:

courier-mta
esmtp-run
exim
exim4-daemon-heavy
exim4-daemon-light
masqmail
nullmailer
postfix
sendmail-bin
smail
ssmtp
xmail
zmailer
