Hi Matt,
I thought it was the way but wasnt sure. The man page is a little
skimpy. I did not help. But google found IIRC a debian-*-manual entry.
So: dpkg-divert --package dpkg --add --rename --divert \
/usr/bin/dpkg.real /usr/bin/dpkg did the trick!
